No, they said it's not a true traditional Thai dish. They know about it but don't themselves make it.
I’ve been coming to Sawasdee for about 15 years. Inside has not changed much but the food is still amazing! The owners are so kind and friendly. From taking time to make suggestions to newbies or chatting with longtime patrons. If you want authentic Thai food come to Sawasdee. Thank you for ladies for delighting my tastebuds for so long with you lovingly prepared food
Excellent Thai food !
Food is so amazing! It seems like a hole-in-the-wall type place but try it out. If you like Thai food then you will like Sawasdee!
Pud Thai with tofu. Very good rice noodles. 3 out of 4 spicy was SUPER spicy but SO GOOD! Very friendly staff. Relaxing atmosphere.
My family and I have been eating at this place for years. The food is fantastic and what I want to eat whenever I am in town.
My daughter and I love this place. We love the food and the staff. We can get the food mild or spicy, my daughter's like theirs mild and I love my food very spicy. we have been happy with everything we have eaten there. The other person who commented about the server not wanting to serve you hot food is right. But once you convince them they are fine with serving the spicy food.
Took part of the family Saturday night, after driving by this restaurant for over 15 years. Man do I need to make up for lost time. So many options of well prepared Thai cuisine. The egg rolls are a favorite. Went back Tuesday night with the rest of the family, had different main dishes, great food!! More egg rolls of course. Small dining area, I really like the personal attention we received.
The interior decor is a little strange, but friendly and genuine. The food was DELICIOUS, and the meal prices on the lunch menu were very reasonable.
By far one of the best Thai restaurants I've ever eaten at. Very mom and pop but good food and very decent prices. Fresh spring rolls and very traditional Thai home cooking. Very impressed.
The food was delicious. The staff was very nice as well. It doesn't look like much but we enjoyed a delicious meal.
Best Thai Restaurant in Chattanooga. No, the owner is not terribly friendly. But the food is great, super authentic.
Perfect every time 👌
Passed this place a million times and finally decided to give it a shot. Bottom line: it was worth it. We went for lunch and I was very impressed with the affordable prices. I'm happy to pay less and receive less unlike most Asian restaurants. Make sure to ask for their dinner menu (more selection and they'll cook from it at lunch time)! We went for lunch and loved what we ordered (three different dishes) and how it was presented. Nothing fancy and no fluff. Just good food like you stepped into their home for an authentic meal. Enjoy this place on a rainy afternoon and it will warm your belly and put a smile on your face!
Good food. Good prices. Will go back.
Relaxed, quick, good food.
Love this place. Never busy when I go for lunch, which is very peaceful compared to the rest of St. Elmo. I've been here a few times and always get two pepper Pad Thai and an egg roll. It's always the same lady serving me when I go, and she's very courteous and the food is quick to come out. The Pad Thia never disappoints! Good proportion for the price too.
I've been going to Sawasdee since 2001 and celebrated my college graduation here. Consistently Excellent atmosphere, service and food. Highly recommended! Try the masama with chicken or shrimp (not on the menu).
Very yummy food but the ambience and cleanliness could stand to go up a notch.
Sawasdee is the best Thai restaurant in town. The owner is the most amazing and caring lady. The food is the best. Ask for the masaman curry. It's not on the menu. You can thank me later.
We went there for lunch. Super friendly! The food and service were excellent. Their business hours are limited, so check be sure that they are open before you go.
Best Thai in Chattanooga! Fresh ingredients and friendly staff.
This little hole in the wall has some of the best Thai food I have ever eaten and I have eaten Thai food from one end of the country to the other. Two people, a couple one cooks the other is the front of the house. That's it! Nice atmosphere but the food, wow. You have to convince them that you are not a wimp if you want it spicy. The "f" series dishes are variations on a theme. Protein, onions peppers and various other things. Great spice and flavor. Pad Thai is perfect. Beer only they lost wine license but bring your own. This o e is a winner.
Best food on the planet and the ladies who run this place are awesome!
Great food quality, reasonably priced, family owmed
We go there for almost every family birthday. Best masaman curry I've ever had! Nice little hole in the wall restaurant that never disappoints!!
Food was excellent. Friendly service. Can't ask for more than that!
The food is excellent. The kitchen is small which can limit choices but everything we tried was great. Our waitress was so knowledgeable and helpful.
Stumbled into this restaurant while in college taking a basic geography course. The assignment was to select a food you have not tried and write a paper about the area. The owners where so excited to share information about their home and culture. The food is fantastic and authentic. It is wonderful to walk in and have them know exactly how spicy you like it. Mango with sticky rice is the perfect finishing touch as long as it's in season.
Warm and cozy place with many authentic Thai selections and every dish we tried was very flavorful and delicious, spice level is higher than usual Thai restaurants but owner was nice enough to warn us so we reduced to milder for kid’s dishes. Overall a very wonderful and pleasant experience!
Homely place. Best Thai food in Chattanooga. They have Thai beer as well. Very popular with local (St. Elmo) residents for the right reasons.
Fantastic restaurant. Food has great flavor and isn't overly salted. Nice and quiet environment. Small parking lot, make sure to call to double check they are still open.
Great prices and service. The food was a step above other thai food.
Friendly, courteous, great choices. So tasty was our food. All three meals were wonderfully spiced. The dessert was fresh sticky rice and Mango. We highly recommend Sawasdee Tai Restaurant.
A neat little place for Thai food. Had the tofu fried rice. The taste of friend tofu was enjoyable. Felt that the overall spice.level is a bit low, so for regular Thai food fans, this might seem a little different, but definitely tasty. Parking spots are limited, so not sure of peak hour situations
Really authentic thai food! Very Good food and great service! My wife and I will definitely be back!
Ate here for the first time today: lunch. Both my girlfriend and I wiped it up. I can’t pronounce anything, but she had C-3 with tofu. I had C-4 with chicken. Both were very tasty. The facility isn t anything to write home about, but we didn’t care once we tasted our food. Probably should have taken the photo when the plate was full. FYI, they will be closed all of October 2019 as the cook will be traveling to Thailand.
I wish I could have given them zero stars. This is the worst Thai food I have ever had in my life. The rice noodles in my pad Thai were all broken up. This is a key indicator that it was old. That's the only time time rice noodles break up into small pieces. No flavor. Dirty carpet. Restaurant smells like urine. Old rubbery tofu. Out of everything we asked for. The fake papya salad that contained cabbage was disgusting. The Tom Ka Gai (coconut soup) had 1 slice of chicken and reeked of fish... Too much fish sauce was used. Out of rice. Who runs out of rice at a Thai food restaurant? We complained, got straight attitude and nothing was done. We left our food on the table barely touched, paid $50 for nothing, and will never return. I'd rather starve to death than eat here again.
The typical Thai fare. Smells great this ginger, black shroom and onion with chicken; however the execution is very sloppy & poor( small portions for the price, tiny slivers of black mushrooms that one might as well call it garnish instead of a main ingredient, over cooked chicken breast, guess they couldn't be bothered with tender cuts of chicken thighs instead). Once again another Thai restaurant who fails at tender chicken. I can't imagine how rough and dry their beef is going to be. other dishes looks great but their sevice was inattentive at best. The lunch menu contains majority rice and no noodles. Asked for Thai coffee but was told there wasn't any(could it be that they are just lazy? and my final edit on their sorry excuse of a milkless thai ice tea, what kind of slop runs this place?). Not returning for another try even if I can give the 2 old ladies another try.
Simple and fresh ingredients. Tasty food. Good service.
I've been driving past this restaurant daily for years not giving it a second thought. I wish I had gone sooner, it's SO worth a visit. Or several. The egg rolls are mind blowing, the food is authentic, watch out for the spicy dishes cause they'll kick your butt.
Very attentive service, and also quite helpful with menu selection. This is especially nice for those not too familiar with Thai cuisine. Very good selection of dishes with decent range of spiciness. The decor is charming, and includes a small, no-shoes tea room.
Indeed a very interesting feel when you enter, not your ideal fancy restaurant. However, the warm hospitality from the staff definitely gave it a homely vibe. Food was absolutely delicious, we had massaman (not on the menu special, ask the staff). Very appetizing and perfect blend of sweet, spicey, and sour! Never judge a book by its cover because grandma is in the kitchen throwing down!!!
The Thai food was good and owner was nice service and fast. The inside is a bit strange at first but you warm up to it after a few minutes.
Great lunch. Service was fast and friendly. The food was well priced and absolutely delicious. I would eat here again!
Best Thai Restaurant anywhere!! Kind service and completely authentic! We love the traditional table for our meals. Feels like being served by family :)
Amazing and reasonably priced!!
If you love authentic Thai food, this is definitely the place to go! Everything I tried was absolutely wonderful and full of flavor. I was a little skeptical to come, considering how some of the reviews made it out to be, but I'm so glad that I came anyways! The bathroom could use a little more upkeep, but overall the food made it worth the trip!
Excellent and affordable!
If youywant authentic food, go here. The woman who runs this place is so kind. My friend had never had Thai food before, and she was so helpful. The food was oh so yummy. The atmosphere can fool you, but trust me the food is good!
Surprisingly good! No wow factor but the food makes up for that.
